A holistic approach to music

A holistic approach looks at a complete system, made up of individual parts, to understand how the system functions. In health, holistic means the mind, body, and spirit are viewed as parts of total wellness. A state of wellness is a balance of the various aspects of our lives. When as singers we embrace a holistic approach to our lives, we are happier. When as singers we recognize that our intruments are part of our overall wellness equation, and we are able to see the wholeness of ourselves, it gives us the information we need to work on any individual parts that may need our attention. Your instrument is inside of you. Unlike a trumpet where components of metal tubing, valves and reeds would be easier to recognize what part needs adjusting to get the best sound out of the instrument. As human beings, fine tuning our instrument is more complex and subtle.

Let’s open up and learn

Being a singer is powerfully beneficial in many ways. We are complex beings. When we sing, it’s not just a physical process; it’s also mental and spiritual. Nothing we do is ever one -dimensional. Everything we do is interconnected with who we are: the hats we wear, our emotions, our loved ones, our hopes and dreams, our beliefs our physical state. It is about balance. Your inner core is love.
